Ein mutterloses Lämmchen schreit
verzagt vom Hügel her.
Kein Muttervlies, das Schutz verleiht
und ihm die Kälte wehrt.
Ich laufe, wickelʼs in mein Kleid.
Ich holʼs, ein Hort sei ihm beschert.
Ich zieh es groß, darauf mein Eid,
es lebe gut und unbeschwert.
