The summer days are short
Where southern nights are long:
Yet short the night when nightingales
Trill out their song.

 

Sing-Sang XIX

Die Sommernacht ist kurz,
und Nordens Tage lang.
Stunde um Stunde zwitschert
Lerche nach Lerche den Sang.

Der Sommertag ist kurz,
und Südens Nächte lang.
Doch kurz wird Nacht, ertönt
Nachtigallensang.
