A windpuff-bonnet of fáwn-fróth
Turns and twindles over the broth
Of a pool so pitchblack, féll-frówning,

Der Bachlauf düster, braun der Kamm,
er stürzt sich tosend durch die Klamm,
in Pferch und Wabe flockt der Seim
und furcht hinab zum See sich heim.

Windbausch-Haube aus brauner Flut
wendet und windet sich auf dem Sud
des Teichs, pechschwarz sein Todesblick,
er beugt der Verzweiflung das Genick.

Benäßt, gesprenkelt sind von Tau
die Hügel-Rippen, da gräbt der Bach sich seinen Bau,
Büschel von Heidekraut, Farn-Gespreite
und die Fruchtfinger der Esche, sein Geleite.

Was wäre die Welt, einmal beraubt
der Wildheit und Feuchte? Sie seien erlaubt,
Oh, sie seien erlaubt, Feuchte und Wildheit.
Es lebe der Wald und die Wildnis noch weit!
