Something beautiful, something good,
All my confusion He understood.

All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife

And my castles all crumbled, my fortune turned to loss.
So I wrapped it all in the rags of life

Der Gnade Strahl verklärt mein Angesicht,
und meines Irrsals Dunkel macht Gott licht.

Scherben, Splitter nur konnt ich Ihm geben,
Er fügt den Krug, gießt ein mir neues Leben.
Und wurden Träume je geträumt,
die edle Knospen auf ins Blaue sprossen,
so waren’s meine, Saat aus goldnem Korn.
In Ströme, die ins Fruchtland flossen,
quoll mir der Hoffnung tiefer Born.

Ein Sumpf der Quell, die Blüten bittre Aschen.
Sturm hat mein Heim verheert, die Tenne leergefegt.
Ich hatte nur noch Spreu in meinen Taschen
und hab sie unters Kreuz gelegt.
