Tent-pole of Eden; the tent’s drapery;
Symbolical glory of the earth and air!
The Father and His angelic hierarchy
That made the magnitude and glory there
Stood in the circuit of a needle’s eye.
Some found a different pole, and where it stood
A pattern on a napkin dipped in blood.

Der Himmelskreis. Der Berenike Haar.
Der Pfahl in Edens Zelt, des Zeltes Vorhang:
Der Glorie Bild ward Land und Lüften wahr!
Der Vater und der Engel gestufter Rang,
sie stellten das erhabne Werk des Ruhmes dar,
schwebend in der Mitte eines Nadelöhrs.
Und manche fanden einen anderen Pfahl,
da lag ein Tuch, gemustert von Blutes Strahl.
