Edwin Arlington Robinson, The House on the Hill

16.03.2019

They are all gone away,
The House is shut and still,
There is nothing more to say.

Through broken walls and gray
The winds blow bleak and shrill:
They are all gone away.

Nor is there one to-day
To speak them good or ill:
There is nothing more to say.

Why is it then we stray
Around the sunken sill?
They are all gone away,

And our poor fancy-play
For them is wasted skill:
There is nothing more to say.

There is ruin and decay
In the House on the Hill:
They are all gone away,
There is nothing more to say.

Das Haus am Hang

Sie sind nun alle weg.
Das Haus ist zu und stumm.
Was reden ohne Zweck.

In Schutt und Fäulnisdreck
bläst Wind sich stumpf und dumm.
Sie sind nun alle weg.

Und keiner geht ums Eck,
sagt „Toll!“, nimmtʼs ihnen krumm.
Was reden ohne Zweck.

Was hält uns an dem Fleck,
zerborstener Schwelle Trumm.
Sie sind nun alle weg.

Und unser Wort-Geheck
ist eitlen Spiels Gesumm.
Was reden ohne Zweck.

Gespenstern ein Versteck,
das Haus am Hang liegt stumm.
Sie sind nun alle weg.
Was reden ohne Zweck.
