Percy Bysshe Shelley, Loveʼs Philosophy

18.05.2014

The fountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the ocean,
The winds of heaven mix for ever
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle.
Why not I with thine?

See the mountains kiss high heaven
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven
If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth
And the moonbeams kiss the sea:
What is all this sweet work worth
If thou kiss not me?

Liebeskunde

Zu den Flüssen kehren sich die Quellen,
die Flüsse sind vermischt im Meer.
Der Himmelswinde wirre Wellen,
sie atmen ineinander schwer.
Nichts auf der Welt ist einsam,
jedes lächelt sich im andern zu
schön wieʼs aus Gottes Händen kam,
warum denn nicht auch ich und du?

Schau, Berge küssen blaue Lüfte,
zusammen rollen sich die Wogen.
Verschließt sie uns die Liebesdüfte,
ums Leben Rose ward betrogen.
Wie die Erde warm wird an der Sonne,
wie rauscht das Meer, vom Mond berückt!
Wie sinnlos wär all diese Wonne,
wenn dein Kuss mich nicht beglückt.
