the drop-dead gorgeous,
the great leading men.

Pity the faded,
the bloated, the blowsy,
the paunchy Adonis
whose luck’s gone lousy.

Pity the gods,
no longer divine.
Pity the night
the stars lose their shine.

Hab Mitleid mit den Schönen,
den Püppchen und edlen Füllen,
den Süßen mit den herben Bossen,
die ihnen jeden Seufzer stillen.

Hab Mitleid mit den Beaus,
den Abgüssen Apollos,
Goldjungen, denen
stets das Glück fällt in den Schoß.

Den umwerfend Attraktiven,
die auserlesen scheinen
und allen den Atem benehmen,
den Großen, umschwärmt von den Kleinen.

Hab Mitleid mit den Verblühten,
aufgedunsenen Gecken,
dickwanstigen Adonissen,
die umsonst Fortunas Klaue lecken.

Hab Mitleid mit den Göttern,
ohne Nimbus sind sie kahl,
Hab Mitleid mit den Nächten,
das Licht der Sterne, es wird fahl.
